Interactive Pupil Diameter Chart
Tapping on the Interactive Pupil Diameter chart will open the chart in full screen. The chart includes the following information:
Y Axis: Pupil diameter in millimetres
X Axis: Time in seconds
Left pupil and right pupil on seperate lines
2 second line refers to the flash light turning on
7 second line refers to the flash light turning off
The chart can be pinched vertically to zoom into the Y Axis. Similarly, pinching horizontally will zoom the X axis.
Max. Pupil Diameter
Max. Pupil Diameter refers to the maximum recorded size in millimetres (mm) for each pupil. Recordings are labelled as follows:

In Range (Green) | 3.9mm to 5.8mm |
Out of Range (Yellow) | < +/- 1 standard deviation (<30%) |
Out of Range (Red) | > +/- 1 standard deviation (>30%) |
Min. Pupil Diameter
Min. Pupil Diameter refers to the minimum recorded size in millimetres (mm) for each pupil. Recordings are labelled as follows:
Label | Range |
In Range (Green) | 2.0mm to 4.0mm |
Out of Range (Yellow) | < +/- 1 standard deviation (<30%) |
Out of Range (Red) | > +/- 1 standard deviation (>30%) |
Why is Pupil Diameter important?
Pupil Diameter results can indicate whether or not the brain is functioning normally. Pupil Diameter above or below normal range can be an indicator of concussion. Furthermore, inconsistency between left eye and right eye Pupil Diameter can be an indicator of concussion. More information can be found in the below references.
